Why do garage doors come off their tracks?

The usual causes are worn or broken rollers, a broken cable, a door striking an obstruction such as a vehicle or bin, loose track brackets, or an opener with force settings too high to sense resistance.

Can I put the door back on the track myself?

We do not recommend it. The door is heavy and still under spring tension, and forcing sections back into the channel commonly bends panels and hardware. Leave the door in place and call for service.

Does track always need to be replaced?

No. Minor bends and alignment issues can often be corrected. Badly deformed or creased sections should be replaced, since rollers will never run cleanly through them again.
